Welcome message from IWDN organisers
The developmental biologists, geneticists and clinicians who attend the International Workshop in Developmental Nephrology are passionate about the biology and pathobiology that underlies kidney formation and malformation. Kidney research is changing rapidly as mechanisms of disease are elucidated and novel therapeutics are brought to the clinic. The 16th workshop will bring together outstanding research spanning kidney developmental biology, kidney organoids, and novel regenerative therapies. The first meeting of IWDN occurred in 1980 in New York was entitled “The Kidney During Development: Morphology and Function,” and was held to honor Dr. Henry L. Barnett, one of the founding fathers of pediatric nephrology. Since 1980, the meeting has occurred all over the world including Canada, Germany, Japan, Italy, Sweden, Israel, Australia, Hungary, USA, and Scotland. This year’s meeting will begin on March. On behalf of the organizing committee of the 16th International Workshop in Developmental Nephrology, we look forward to welcoming you to Kyoto, Japan to discuss your science and collaborate with others in the field.
Abstract Submission Guidelines
General Information & Deadlines
- Abstracts must be submitted electronically via the online submission system by 15 July 2026 according to the instructions below. Abstracts received via e-mail or after the deadline will not be accepted and therefore cannot be considered for the program.
- Abstracts need to be submitted to one of the following topics:

Please note that all submitted abstracts will be peer reviewed by the IWDN Organising Committee and their selection will be final.
- Once the abstract is submitted, it can be changed until the abstract submission deadline of 15 July 2026.
- The number of abstracts submitted per presenting author is not limited.
- Accepted abstracts will be made available electronically in the online program on the event website and in the Pediatric Nephrology journal. Abstracts not suitable for display will be rejected. Please have your abstract(s) checked for correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and formatting. The organiser reserves the right to edit abstracts if necessary. Submission of the abstract constitutes the consent of all authors to publication.
- All presenting authors will receive an acceptance/rejection notification letter via e-mail by 17 September 2026.
- An invitation to submit an abstract does not constitute an offer to cover travel, accommodation, or registration expenses associated with the congress.
- All presentations can only be delivered in person. There is no possibility for Zoom/online presentations.
- All presenting authors are required to register and pay the registration fee by 30 October 2026 as a condition of presenting the abstract. Authors who are unable to attend may ask a colleague to present on their behalf. If you or your co-authors are unable to attend, please notify the Congress Secretariat at [email protected] to withdraw your abstract at the earliest, so that we may give others a possibility to present.
Abstract Formatting
- All abstracts must be written in English.
- The abstract title is limited to 30 words and must be submitted using the Title Case (e.g. IgA Vasculitis in Asia – capitalizing the first letter of each major word, while leaving short function words like “and,” “for,” and “the” in lowercase).
- The maximum abstract length is 500 words.
- Up to 15 authors can be submitted for one abstract (including the presenting author). Each author can have more than one affiliation.
- No pictures / figures / tables are allowed in the abstract text.
